Son of Joseph Hosford and Abigail Bartholomew . He graduated from Dartmouth College 1838: from Andover Theological Seminary in 1841and became a Congregational minister. After preaching at various places, on 21 May 1845 he was ordained and settled as pastor of the Centre Congregational Church of Haverhill, MA. In March 1859 about a hundred members withdrew from the church, founded the North Congregational Society, and invited Rev Hosford to be their pastor: He declined this offer and continued over the Centre Church until his death in Haverhill on10 Aug 1864. He discharged his office with great faithfulness and success.

This is from a collection of bookplates rescued from a badly damaged two volume 1888 first edition set entitled "History Of Essex County Massachusetts, With Biographical Sketches of Many of its Pioneers And Prominent Men." By D. Hamilton Hurd.

The approximate entire bookplate size is 7.5 x 10.5 inches or 19 x 27 cm. The backside, or verso, is blank.
