The Crisis is a 1916 American silent historical drama film produced by William N. Selig and directed by Colin Campbell. The film is based on the American Civil War novel The Crisis by American novelist Winston Churchill. The novel was adapted into a play and produced on Broadway in 1902. A copy of this film is preserved at the Library of Congress.

"The mightiest American drama ever conceived! The Crisis by Winston Churchill, how the great heart of Lincoln, Man of sorrows bled in silent anguish for the strife torn, shattered South. A tense, sympathetic life picture of those crucial days before the first shot that broke the fetters of the black slave. The most impressive, intensely dramatic portrayal of the strife from which rose this union. One and indivisible! Amazingly realistic effects. A powerfully competent cast of stars."

"Warner film attractions. J.L. Warner, manager presents The Crisis, a Photodramatic sensation based on the world read novel by Winston Churchill. Coming to Butler Theatre one day only Monday, June 11." (The Butler Theatre in Tonopah, Nevada)

"A great event for you, The Crisis, the book, by Winston Churchill, was proven by its tremendous sale to be one of the most absorbing stories of modern times. The Crisis in motion pictures, amazed the critics and sent its fame through the press from coast to coast. If the motion picture is more vivid--graphic--than the printed word, then this film-picture of this pathetically powerful American story is 10 times more realistic and 10 times more effective than the authors own conception could possibly have been. In presenting The Crisis to the world more than a mere story is chronicle; for the breathless hours that this nation lived through toward the last of the slavery are still written in the lives and fortunes of the people of the south. To witness The Crisis is to live over again those dark times toward which we in these times must look back with sympathy and think that destiny has preserved us in peace and plenty. No man, woman or child seeing The Crisis can fail to realize the tremendous significance of the production."

The Crisis sought to mine the success of 1915's The Birth of a Nation. It was popular in theatres, but the United States' entry into World War I in April 1917 effectively ended interest in another Civil War film in light of the new war. The production was shot in part in Mississippi and St. Louis, Missouri. Actor Matt B. Snyder was a real-life Civil War veteran having served in the Union Navy on the gunship USS Essex. Snyder and Sam D. Drane, who portrayed Abraham Lincoln in the film, died prior to its general release in 1917.
