From the Southern California estate sale of a silent film collector! Very hard to find original silent film movie theater herald for THE ETERNAL MOTHER.

The Eternal Mother is a surviving 1917 American silent drama film directed by Frank Reicher and stars Ethel Barrymore. The picture is taken from a novel, Red Horse Hill, by Sidney McCall, an alias for Mary McNeill Fenollosa.

Ethel Barrymore (born Ethel Mae Blythe; August 15, 1879 – June 18, 1959) was an American actress and a member of the Barrymore family of actors, sister of John & Lionel Barrymore. Ethel Barrymore was a stage, screen and radio actress whose career spanned six decades, and was regarded as "The First Lady of the American Theatre".

As described in a film magazine, Maris (Barrymore) endeavors to persuade her husband Dwight Alden (Mills) to replace the children working in his mills with man and women, but Alden does not listen to his wife's pleas. One night a little girl is injured and Maris, calling on her, discovers that she is her own daughter from a previous marriage who she thought was dead. She finds that her former husband, whom she also believed to be dead, is still living. Maris returns to her home, unable to forget her little girl. When the girl runs away from her father and comes to Maris, Maris leaves Alden, explaining her reasons in a letter. Alden learns that Maris' former husband secured a divorce so that he might marry another woman. With this evidence, and after clearing his factories of child workers, Alden goes to Maris and begs her and her child to return home with him.

"Ethel Barrymore, the celebrated star, is seen at her best in The Eternal Mother. Maris, the heroine (miss Barrymore) Marries a worthless wretch, with whom she leads a miserable life. When he and their little child are reported killed in a railroad accident, she marries Dwight Alden, a wealthy mill owner. Surrounded by luxury, she is heartbroken when she discovers the condition of the children working in the mill. Alden refuses to improve conditions. Discovering that her first husband, Winch, is alive, and that her own child, who is also living, has been injured in Alden's Mill, she leaves his house. How she wins better working conditions for the little children employed in the mill, and great happiness, is well told in this heart-stirring photodrama. A five act Metro Wonderplay of love and devotion."
