Rare 1881 Romance Perfume Lands Ingredients Jacob Cole Snake Oil Advertisements

This is such a cool book! First of all it is a scarce book titled "A Romance Of Perfume Lands" or "The Search For Capt. Jacob Cole" by F. S. Clifford. Then, it is a special edition that was given away free to visitors at the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association in 1881 with the "compliments" of Messrs. Clifford & Co. dealers in perfumery and toilet articles. The book contains many references to various & obscure ingredients in the making of Victorian era perfumes, such as Acacia, Ambreine, Areca nut, Behen tree, Civet, Gulabdan, Joss sticks, and many many more of plants, herbs, trees, etc. all found in the handy index in the rear. Then, also, since this was given away free, the cost was absorbed by a variety of advertisements from Snake Oil sales to furniture, and perfume of course. There are a lot of ads, just about every other page has an ad, lots of how to cure cancer and consumption and such! Several magnet type remedies as well.

Perfume & snake oil collectors alike will greatly enjoy this book!

The cover shows wear, spine crack at the front hinge. A few small page edge tears. Size is 6 x 7.5 inches, 295 pages.
