Extremely hard to find! The Barrier is a LOST FILM! An original BOOK SHAPED movie theater herald for THE BARRIER (1917), a 35mm 9 or 10 reel photoplay or PHOTO-DRAMA moving motion picture, based on the 1907 book by REX BEACH. Directed by Edgar Lewis, scenario by Adrian Gill-Spear, controlled by Louis J. Selznick. Cast includes MABEL JULIENNE SCOTT, Russell Simpson, Howard Hall, Victor Sutherland, Mitchell Lewis, Edward Roseman, W.J. Gross, and Mary Kennevan Carr. This is from THE BUTLER THEATRE in Tonopah, Nevada. Admission price was 11 cents - 17 cents and showing for one day only!

From research I could gather, this was apparently filmed on location by the Rex Beach Picture Company in the Alaskan Yukon in August of 1916 using the Kinemacolor process.

"The wonderfully vivid and picturesque Alaskan romances of Rex Beach have been read by hundreds of thousands of people and have made him one of the most popular American authors. His strongest and most widely read story is THE BARRIER which is now produced in film form. The picture closely follows the swift action in striking situations of the book and is a faithful portrayal of the wild, rough, lawless life of CALIFORNIA and ALASKA in the days when these lands were the haven of hunted men in the last frontiers of civilization. Better than The Spoilers."

The middle vertical fold line is 4 inches, and when opened up it is 6 inches wide. Used condition, tiny edge tears. Please examine the images closely and ask any questions before purchasing. This is from a private collection of silent film era ephemera that I purchased. Inventory# silentfilmbin.
